Earlier today in Kigali, Rwanda, Kabarak University signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kigali Independent University (ULK), marking a significant milestone in fostering academic collaboration, research partnerships, and regional integration within the East African higher education landscape. The signing ceremony, held at ULK’s main campus, was attended by senior administrators, faculty members, and students from both institutions.
The MoU signing is a key highlight of a week-long outreach mission by Kabarak University that is currently underway in Rwanda. This outreach program spans not only the capital city of Kigali but also several other regions across the country. The initiative aims to engage with Senior Six students and various institutions of higher learning, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, academic exposure, and cross-border collaboration.
Leading the Kabarak University delegation is Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, who expressed deep appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the ULK leadership and the people of Rwanda. In his remarks, Prof. Kiplangat emphasized the shared values that unite Kabarak University and ULK—values rooted in academic excellence, moral leadership, and a deep commitment to societal transformation through education. “This partnership is not merely symbolic,” he remarked. “It is a strategic alliance built on trust, purpose, and a shared desire to uplift our communities through quality education and innovation.”
The Vice-Chancellor is accompanied by a distinguished delegation comprising Rev. Justus Mutuku, the Acting University Provost; Dr. Jean C. Zigama, Lecturer in Education Communication and Technology from the School of Education, Humanities & Social Sciences; Ms. Caroline Boinett, Assistant Registrar (Admissions and Student Records); Mr. Peter Inziano, the University Webmaster; and Mr. Gloire Tuyishime, a student from the School of Music and Media. Throughout the week, this team will engage with Rwandan students, educators, and administrators through a series of academic visits, forums, and presentations.
The signed MoU outlines six core areas of collaboration: joint academic research, staff and student exchange programs, co-hosting of academic conferences and workshops, scholarly publication and dissemination, innovation and incubation programs, and collaborative capacity-building initiatives. Both universities have appointed dedicated faculty teams to coordinate and implement the partnership activities effectively.
Prof. Kiplangat also took the opportunity to highlight recent achievements by Kabarak University, including the launch of academic programs in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, as well as the university’s outstanding student performances in both national and continental competitions. These milestones, he noted, reflect Kabarak’s commitment to remaining a leader in transformative, Biblically grounded education.
“As Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, ‘As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.’ This collaboration represents more than a formal agreement—it is a relationship built on faith, mutual respect, and a vision to nurture a generation of ethical, skilled, and globally competitive graduates,” Prof. Kiplangat said in conclusion.
This historic partnership between Kabarak University and ULK not only enhances institutional development but also contributes to the broader narrative of strengthening higher education across Africa. Kabarak University remains focused on its mission: to provide holistic, high-quality education grounded in Biblical Christian values. The partnership with ULK marks a significant step forward in this mission and sets the tone for continued collaboration, learning, and regional impact.
