KUSSA’s End of Semester Innovation Day

The Kabarak University Science Students Association (KUSSA) hosted the end of semester innovation day for the students in the School of Science, Engineering and Technology on Saturday 23rd March 2024. The event provided a platform for students to showcase their innovative projects and to get valuable inputs from the panel of judges.

Innovations presented by the students in the school included; Kejani Estate by Owen Esiepe, Mwalimu chatbot by Jones Terah, Digital Laboratory for Chemical Simulation by Alex Kipto, Shadrack Mark, and Christian Barasa, Project Ghost by Roy Kendagor, Nashon Ronnie and Farida Chepngetich, Roofa Housing by Emmanuel  Mwalugha, James Muchiri, Lucky Charo and Kelvin Wanyama, Lecspaces: LMS transformation via video conferencing integration by Ivan Toroitich Bowen, Emotional Mental Health Assistant (EMMA) by Opiyo Don Paul, Glory Kinya and Emanuel Oketch, Smart Grid by James Gathiru Karu, Health Information Management System (HMIS) by Mavin Kipkorir Ng'etich, Anxiety Relief Companion by Morara Felix Masigwa, Havest Expert by Griffin Wigina and SGFA System by Mercy Jemeli

The top five innovations presented were;

  1. Smart Grid by James Gathiru Karu
  2. Anxiety Relief Companion by Morara Felix Masigwa
  3. Roofa Housing by Emmanuel Mwalugha, James Muchiri, and Kelvin Wanyama
  4. LecSpaces: LMS transformation via video conferencing Integration by Ivan Toroitich Bowen
  5. Emotional Mental Health Assistant (EMMA) by Opiyo Don Paul, Glory Kinya and Emanuel Oketch

The event was well attended with over 400 students from various tech communities in the School such as the Google Developers Students Club (GDSC), She Codes Africa Nakuru Chapter and the Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors. They were encouraged to participate in the upcoming data innovation and entrepreneurship training and challenge in the May semester as well as the Central Rift Innovation Week that will be taking place in September 2024.

The event was graced by Mr Kennedy Esau and Mr Vincent Kibet from the ICT Authority, Nakuru County, Dr Andrew Kipkebut, the Coordinator, Innovation and Business incubation in the directorate of Research, Innovation and Outreach, Ms Petronella Mumbua, Lecturer, Pure Mathematics and Dr Moses M Thiga the KUSSA patron.
