Battle for US $1M Hult Prize
Some of the brightest young innovative minds of Kabarak University gathered on Saturday 19, October, 2019 to present answers to some of the planet’s greatest questions and ultimately win the most coveted prize of USD 1 Million in the 2020 Hult prize Challenge.
Leaving nothing to chance, all the teams showcased their innovative ideas of a sustainable environment in a neck to neck series of presentations to a panel of judges.
Then came the time to announce the winning teams and tension filled the air in what could be termed as the stiffest multiple rounds of competitions ever held in the University and the Dream Chasers were declared winners.
The winning team is therefore set to proceed to the Finals early next year where they will represent the University and the country as a whole in Shanghai, China in battling out for the 1Million USD with other top teams from the world’s top academic institutions.
The Hult Prize which was established by Bertil Hult is one of the world’s largest student competition where that crowd-sources ideas from students after challenging them to solve a pressing social issue around topics.
In Kabarak University, The Hult Prize was established in 2015 and since then the University has participated in four Regional finals.ie. In 2016, Shanghai China where they emerged position 12, In 2017, Shanghai China-position 9, In 2018, Toronto Canada, position 5 and last year’s position 2 where they lost the prize with a whisker to Havard University.
If all goes well and “The Dream chasers” ideas turn into a reality, the team will use the seed capital to develop their idea further, with the goal of realising a sustainable environment as well enjoy other incentives that come along with the award.
