At Kabarak University, we celebrate students who pursue not just academic distinction but real-world impact. One such alumnus is Maxwell Leleur, a 2024 graduate of the Actuarial Science and Financial Mathematics programme who earned First-Class Honours, a testament to his discipline, resilience, and commitment to mastering his craft.
Maxwell’s journey was not defined merely by grades but by a dedication to deep conceptual understanding. During his time at Kabarak University, he chose to focus on mastering the complexity of his coursework rather than simply chasing marks, a mindset that shaped both his academic and professional growth.
While still a student, Maxwell embraced leadership opportunities, serving as Class Representative and later as President and Vice-President of the Actuarial Student Society. These roles equipped him with communication skills and an ability to organise learning communities, strengthening his confidence and professional maturity.
Perhaps most impressive is that Maxwell began building his professional portfolio before he even graduated. In 2024, he developed an automated pension statement system for the Kabarak University Retirement Benefit Scheme, boosting transparency and accuracy for over 1,000 members, a project that demonstrated his analytical capability and problem-solving skills.
Graduating with First Class Honours (75.29%) marked a major achievement, but for Maxwell it was also a springboard into meaningful work. Soon after, he joined the African Centre for Data Science and Analytics as a trainer and practitioner and went on to collaborate with international organisations such as the Global Skills Development Council in Singapore and leading insurance firms.
Maxwell is now advancing his academic journey with a Master’s in Data Science, and his story continues to inspire current and future students, proving that with grit, curiosity, and purpose, the path from campus to career can start long before graduation.
“More than titles, I see myself as a builder of systems, people, and opportunities,” Maxwell says, a mindset that truly reflects the Kabarak University spirit.
