On February 17, 2025, Kabarak University had the privilege of participating in the Lamu County Career Day, an inspiring event dedicated to empowering the youth and promoting inclusivity. Set against the serene backdrop of Lamu, Kenya’s oldest town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the event offered a unique opportunity for students, mentors, and educators to come together and chart pathways toward a brighter future.
Representing Kabarak University were Dishon Mngoda, Assistant Dean of Students, and Margaret Arome, who engaged with students, parents, and educators, sharing insights about the university’s diverse programs and commitment to a holistic, quality education rooted in Biblical values. The event, organized by the Lamu Organization for People with Disabilities, emphasized the importance of accessible education and career opportunities for all, including persons with disabilities.
The Career Day highlighted the essence of community and mentorship, as youth from across Lamu connected with professionals and institutions, gaining valuable career guidance and inspiration. For Kabarak University, it was not just an opportunity to showcase academic offerings but also to listen, learn, and build meaningful relationships with the people of Lamu County.
“We are deeply grateful for the warm reception and the chance to interact with the vibrant community of Lamu. It was heartening to see so many young minds eager to learn and grow,” shared Dishon Mngoda. Margaret Arome echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of continued engagement: “Events like these remind us of the power of education in transforming lives. We look forward to more fruitful collaborations in the future.”
Lamu, often referred to as the “Island of Festivals,” with its rich Swahili heritage, bustling markets, and ancient stone streets, provided the perfect setting for this meaningful exchange. As a hub of culture, learning, and tradition since the 14th century, the island stands as a testament to the enduring value of education and community.
Kabarak University extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended the Career Day and contributed to its success. We look forward to future engagements and invite the youth of Lamu to explore the endless possibilities that education can offer.
