Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat Officially Opens CRIW 2025 at Kabarak University

Wednesday, 17th September 2025, marked a significant milestone in the 2025 Central Rift Innovation Week (CRIW) as Kabarak University hosted the official launch of this premier innovation event.

The day began with uplifting anthems led by the School of Music and Media team, followed by an inspiring devotional thought and prayer from Rev. Justus Mutuku, Acting University Provost. Participants were then welcomed by Dr. Phillip Nyawere, Director of Research, Innovation and Outreach, with remarks from Prof. John Ochola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Research).

The highlight of the morning was the official address and launch delivered by Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, Vice-Chancellor, Kabarak University, who emphasized the institution’s commitment to transforming ideas into impactful solutions for Kenya and beyond.

The plenary session featured distinguished speakers, including:

  • John Tanui, CBS, Principal Secretary, Ministry of ICT & the Digital Economy, delivering the keynote on Driving Kenya’s Digital Superhighway.
  • Allan Kosgey, Chairman of the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI), highlighting Intellectual Property as a Catalyst for Innovation.
  • A high-level panel discussion bringing together experts from KIPPRA, KIPI, Kabarak University, and ICTA to deliberate on policy, IP, and the future of innovation in Kenya.

The afternoon saw engaging discussions on smart infrastructure, digital ecosystems, financing innovation, and public–private partnerships, capped by a ministerial tour of the innovation and startup exhibitions. The day concluded with the launch of the CRIW 2025 Policy Brief and an official photo session.

Today’s official opening set the tone for the remainder of the week, underscoring CRIW’s role as a platform where innovation meets impact. With academia, industry, government, and development partners in attendance, Kabarak University continues to position itself as a hub of research, creativity, and transformative innovation.
