An idea becomes more valuable when it moves beyond the classroom and starts addressing real challenges. For the team behind Study Path, a student-led innovation from Kabarak University, that journey took an important step forward during a four-day innovation bootcamp held at Radix Hotel from 11 to 15 October 2026.
Selected through the ACCESS Project following their success at the Central Rift Innovation Week competition, the Study Path team joined student innovators from more than 10 universities for an intensive programme focused on strengthening their ideas, refining their business models and preparing their innovations for funding and market entry.
The bootcamp provided practical training to help student innovators move from promising concepts to solutions with the potential for real-world application. Sessions covered key areas of entrepreneurship, including the Business Model Canvas, effective pitching, partnership development, storytelling, and prototyping.
These skills are essential for innovators seeking to communicate the value of their ideas, attract potential partners and investors, and develop solutions that respond to identifiable market needs.
For the Study Path team, the experience offered an opportunity to refine their approach, test how they communicate their innovation, and learn alongside peers working on solutions in different fields.
Beyond the training sessions, the students had an opportunity to put their skills into practice by pitching Study Path alongside innovators representing universities participating in the ACCESS Project.
An industry engagement opportunity, facilitated with support from I Choose Life Africa, provided an additional step towards practical application. The students were paired with an industry player seeking solutions to existing business challenges. They presented ideas aimed at addressing these needs, opening the way for continued engagement as they work towards developing solutions that can be implemented within the business.
This interaction gave the team an opportunity to engage directly with industry, understand practical business needs and explore how their innovation could contribute to solving real-world problems.
The engagement also highlighted the value of bringing students and industry partners together early in the innovation process. Such collaborations help bridge the gap between academic ideas and the practical demands of the market.
The team's participation extended beyond the bootcamp. The students were also invited to attend the SME Africa Summit at Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi, where they had another opportunity to engage with the entrepreneurship and business ecosystem.
Participation in such forums exposes emerging innovators to broader conversations around enterprise development, business growth and the opportunities available to young entrepreneurs. It also creates opportunities to build networks that can support the next stages of their innovation journey.
The progress made by the Study Path team reflects the role of collaboration in nurturing student-led innovation. By connecting university talent with industry players and development partners, initiatives such as the ACCESS Project create opportunities for students to strengthen their ideas, gain practical experience and explore pathways towards implementation.
Through its collaboration with I Choose Life Africa and other partners, Kabarak University continues to support an environment where students can apply their knowledge beyond academic settings and develop solutions that respond to the needs of society and industry.
As Study Path moves into its next phase, the team's experience at the bootcamp marks an important milestone. The focus now shifts to building on the feedback received, sustaining industry engagement, and exploring how the innovation can be developed into a practical, market-ready solution.
Congratulations to the Study Path team on this achievement. Their progress is a reminder that student innovation does not end with a competition. With the right support, partnerships, and practical skills, an idea can take the next step towards making a meaningful difference.
