Mr. Patrick Kisabei, Team Leader, Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board;

Members of the Kabarak University Management Board;

Prof. Pamela Kimeto, Dean School of Medicine and Health Sciences;

Dr. Michael Walekhwa, HoD of Medical Laboratory Sciences;

Ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning!

It is my honor to welcome you to Kabarak University. We appreciate your presence on our Campus today for the site inspection of the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences. This visit signifies the mutual commitment we share towards advancing the Medical Laboratory Sciences in Kenya.

Kabarak University was founded on 16th October, 2000 by His Excellency President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, the Second President of the Republic of Kenya and the First Chancellor of the University. His Excellency President Moi wanted to set up a reputable Christian, Liberal Arts, Science, and Technology university.

The University operated under the Letter of Interim Authority granted by the Government of Kenya and presented to the University by the Commission for Higher Education on 16th October 2000, therefore allowing the institution to award degrees.

The University opened the door for admission of its first students in September 2002. On 16th May, 2008 the University was awarded Charter by His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki, the third President of the Republic of Kenya.

The Vision of Kabarak University is to become a Centre of Academic Excellence founded on Biblical Christian values.

The Mission is to provide holistic quality education based on research, practical skills and Biblical Christian values.

Our core values are:

  • Integrity
  • Professionalism
  • Patriotism
  • Innovativeness
  • Being mindful of others

The Moral Code of the University: As members of Kabarak University family, we purpose at all times and in all places, to set apart in one’s heart, Jesus as Lord (1 Peter 3:15).

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we recognize the role that Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board plays in assuring the public that the individuals who graduate from accredited programs such as ours have received quality education. The students are also assured that the accredited program to which they enroll into meets the standards of the profession they seek to enter. It is for these reasons that we uphold continuous quality improvement that leads to improved operations, outcomes, system processes, work environment and regulatory compliance.

We value accreditation from the professional bodies and regulators. We strive to meet and, where possible, exceed the set minimum requirements. This is because of our belief that accreditation does not only qualify our work but also provides an indication of how we are doing in our academic, administrative, and operational, and practices.

We are ISO 9001:2015 Certified since the year 2017. This means that our quality standards are comparable to national and international standards for quality management. To maintain this standard, the Kenya Bureau of Standards perform surveillance audits every year in addition to the internal audits that are carried out regularly as part of our internal quality monitoring system.

Today, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Kabarak University, particularly to the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences. During your visit, you will interact with faculty and staff members in the school and in the department. You will also have an opportunity to visit various laboratories, the University Library, the offices, classrooms, the hostels and other facilities we have put in place to support our medical laboratory program. You will also get an opportunity to interact with the University policies and standard operating procedures that help us maintain quality.

As you will find out, we have established the following directorates in the Division of Academic and Research Services to further enhance our quality:

The Directorate for Quality Assurance and Institutional Planning – charged with the responsibility of developing, sustaining, and reviewing quality and standards in the University's procedures, processes, and products.

The Directorate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching – responsible for training academic staff in the best practices in teaching and learning. This involves training in innovative and emerging technology skills in pedagogy and andragogy.

Open Distance and E-Learning Centre, known as Kabarak University Online. The Centre is fully accredited by the Commission for University Education to offer fully and blended online academic programs through our digital hub at Kabarak University Online.

The Directorate of Research, Innovation and Outreach – mandated to oversee and grow capacity and activities in research, innovation and outreach among staff and students.

The Directorate of Linkages, Partnerships and Alumni Affairs – establishes and maintains local and international strategic partnerships to support learning and research. It also forms a link between the University and its alumni.

The Institute for Postgraduate Studies coordinates Postgraduate academic programs in the various schools.

We look forward to receiving your insights and recommendations for further improvements following the site inspection. Your valuable guidance and expertise will undoubtedly help us to further enhance the quality of our program and strengthen our position in training medical laboratory technologists.

With those remarks, it is my pleasure to invite Mr. Patrick Kisabei, the Team Leader, to make his remarks.
