Kabarak University Concludes Nyayo Intervarsity Mediation Competition with Outstanding Display of ADR Excellence

The Nyayo Intervarsity Mediation Competition concluded successfully at Kabarak University Law School, bringing to a close several days of rigorous competition, intellectual engagement, and the celebration of excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

The prestigious competition attracted talented law students from universities across the country, providing a platform to demonstrate their negotiation, mediation, advocacy, and problem-solving skills in simulated dispute resolution scenarios. Throughout the event, participants showcased professionalism, analytical thinking, and a deep appreciation of mediation as an effective mechanism for resolving conflicts.

The highly anticipated grand finale featured a compelling contest between Strathmore University and Kabarak University, with both teams delivering exceptional performances before a distinguished panel of judges. Following an intense and closely contested final, Strathmore University emerged as the Best Negotiating Team, while Brillian Baraka of Kabarak University was recognised as the Best Mediator, a testament to his outstanding communication, impartiality, and mediation skills.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Kabarak University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, who officially declared the competition closed. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated all participating universities for their exemplary performances and commended the students for embracing mediation as an important tool for promoting justice, dialogue, and peaceful conflict resolution. He also expressed the University's appreciation to the organizers, judges, coaches, and partners whose dedication contributed to the success of the competition.

Also addressing the participants, Dean of Kabarak Law School, Prof. John Osogo Ambani, congratulated the competing teams for their commitment and professionalism throughout the tournament. He encouraged the participants to continue developing their expertise in alternative dispute resolution, emphasizing the growing importance of mediation and negotiation in contemporary legal practice.

In a significant announcement during the closing ceremony, Prof. Ambani revealed that Kabarak Law School will soon introduce specialized Master of Laws (LLM) programmes in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). The new postgraduate programmes are expected to strengthen the University's leadership in ADR education and provide advanced training for legal professionals seeking expertise in mediation, arbitration, negotiation, and other dispute resolution mechanisms.

The Nyayo Intervarsity Mediation Competition has once again demonstrated the critical role of experiential learning in legal education by equipping future advocates with practical skills that complement classroom instruction. The event also fostered collaboration, professional networking, and the exchange of ideas among students and legal practitioners from institutions across Kenya.

Kabarak University extends its sincere appreciation to all participating universities, coaches, judges, organizers, and guests for making the competition a remarkable success.
