Kabarak University and Millersville University (USA) Renew Partnership to Expand Global Academic Opportunities

Kabarak University has renewed its strategic partnership with Millersville University of Pennsylvania, USA, following the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the third day of the 16th Kabarak University International Research Conference.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, Vice-Chancellor of Kabarak University, and Prof. Daniel A. Wubah, President of Millersville University, marking another important step in the growing collaboration between the two institutions.

The signing ceremony followed a courtesy call by the Millersville University delegation to the Vice-Chancellor. It formed part of a day dedicated to strengthening international partnerships and advancing higher education through global engagement.

Speaking before the signing, Prof. Kiplangat described Prof. Wubah's visit and delegation as a clear demonstration that the partnership established in 2024 is already taking shape.

"The visit to our University by the President and the delegation from Millersville University is a strong indication of the implementation of the MoU, which President Wubah and I signed in 2024. Today, we are renewing our commitment to that MoU."

The renewed agreement creates a framework for deeper collaboration between the two universities in teaching, research, innovation, and international engagement. It outlines several key areas of cooperation, including student mobility, faculty exchanges, collaborative research, workshops, and the development of joint academic programmes.

Among the opportunities expected to emerge from the partnership are:

  • Student exchange and mobility programmes for undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree students.
  • Development of dual-degree, transfer-degree, and joint-degree programmes, subject to regulatory approval.
  • Joint academic research, conferences, workshops, and collaborative projects across various disciplines.
  • Faculty collaboration and academic exchange that will enrich teaching, learning, and research in both institutions.

The Memorandum of Understanding also provides a platform for both universities to pursue additional collaborative initiatives through future agreements, allowing the partnership to grow in response to emerging opportunities and shared priorities. The agreement is intended to strengthen cooperation while allowing each institution to maintain its academic independence and institutional identity.

For Kabarak University, the renewed partnership supports its broader vision of expanding international collaborations that enrich the student experience, strengthen research capacity, and increase global opportunities for both staff and learners.

The signing comes at a time when universities are placing greater emphasis on international partnerships that prepare graduates for an increasingly interconnected world. Through collaborations such as this, Kabarak University continues to build meaningful relationships with leading institutions across the globe while creating pathways for academic excellence, innovation, and cross-cultural learning.

The MoU signing also set the stage for a historic public lecture delivered later in the day by Prof. Daniel A. Wubah, becoming the first serving president of an American university to deliver a public lecture at a Kenyan university. The lecture formed one of the highlights of this year's International Research Conference, which continues under the theme, "Reimagining University Education for an AI-Driven, Competency-Based Future."
