Marking Menstrual Hygiene Day

Menstrual Hygiene Day is a global initiative that aims to raise awareness about the importance of menstrual hygiene management. Kabarak University's Outreach and Linkages function is making a significant impact on the lives of young girls through its mentorship program. The initiative, known as "Support a Needy Girl Attend School", recently mentored and supported girls from Ol Rongai Primary School in Rongai sub-county on June 2nd. The program aims to empower girls to attend school, especially during their monthly periods.

The project targets disadvantaged social and economic backgrounds in Nakuru and Baringo Counties, among others. Thanks to the support of partners and well-wishers from within the University and beyond, the program has been made possible. The coordinator of Outreach and Linkages has championed the program since 2020, and over 3,000 girls have received support. The team aims to reach over 5,000 girls this year.

The program organizes training sessions and forums to discuss, teach, and empower girls on issues related to menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, girl rights, hygiene, and sustainability. Peer counseling is also available to provide emotional support to the girls.

During the recent mentorship program, the coordinator of Outreach and Linkages and the public health officer from Rongai sub-county, Mr. Ngeny, educated and encouraged the girls. They also asked the teachers from the school to continually educate the girls on matters of menstrual hygiene. The school was grateful for the support.

The Support a Needy Girl Attend School program is a vital initiative that is making a significant impact on the lives of young girls in Kenya. By providing education and support on menstrual hygiene management, the program is empowering girls to attend school and achieve their full potential. The program's success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Outreach and Linkages team and their partners. With their continued efforts, more girls will have the opportunity to receive the support they need to succeed.
