On 29th July 2026, Kabarak University hosted a delegation from Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU), China, for a high-level partnership meeting aimed at strengthening academic collaboration and expanding opportunities in research, innovation, agriculture, and student exchange.

The meeting opened with a presentation by NAU Vice President, Prof. Feng Shuyi, who commended the progress made through the partnership. He highlighted key achievements, including the deployment of Chinese-language teachers to Kabarak University through the Confucius Institute, student participation in summer exchange programmes, scholarship opportunities, and collaboration in innovation competitions, in which Kabarak students recently earned silver medals.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Ochola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), outlined Kabarak University's vision for the partnership through six interconnected pillars. These include Chinese-language and cultural engagement, student scholarships and mobility, innovation competitions, joint academic training, collaborative research and technology transfer, and initiatives in agriculture, livestock, food, and nutrition.

The discussions also explored transformative opportunities that will shape the next phase of the partnership. Among the key proposals was the development of a joint China–Kenya cooperation agreement to establish an agrolivestock laboratory dedicated to agriculture and livestock product processing. The two institutions also discussed plans to establish the Nanjing Agricultural University African Campus at Kabarak University, envisioned as a continental centre of excellence offering academic programmes and research in agricultural biotechnology, food technology, nutrition, and dietetics.

The visit concluded with a tour of Kabarak University's teaching and research facilities, where the delegation visited lecture halls and specialised laboratories across several Schools.
