Innovation and entrepreneurship took centre stage at Kabarak University as 30 exceptional students officially began their AfyaVentures Cohort 2026 journey after emerging successful in a highly competitive selection process coordinated by the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Outreach. Their selection marks the beginning of an exciting opportunity to transform innovative ideas into practical health solutions while gaining valuable industry exposure and mentorship.
The programme attracted applications from students across the University who expressed interest in becoming part of the AfyaVentures initiative. Following a thorough evaluation of the applications, 30 students were selected to proceed to the next phase of the programme.
The successful participants attended an orientation and information session designed to prepare them for the journey ahead. The session introduced them to the programme's objectives, expectations, upcoming activities, and the opportunities available as they work alongside innovators and industry professionals.
The session was facilitated by Ms Winnie Mandela, Product Associate at Amref Health Africa, whose engagement highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between universities and industry in empowering young innovators to develop practical solutions for real-world healthcare challenges.
AfyaVentures is designed to nurture the next generation of health innovators by equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to develop impactful solutions. Through the programme, participants will have the opportunity to strengthen their innovation and entrepreneurial abilities, collaborate with like-minded peers, receive mentorship from experienced professionals, and refine ideas that have the potential to improve healthcare outcomes and address societal challenges.
