Kabarak University Hosts Key Talks to Forge Partnership with the University of Venda for the Establishment of the African Musicology Institute

On Wednesday, 8th October 2025, our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat, hosted Prof. Madimabe Geoff Mapaya from the University of Venda and Prof. Mellitus Wanyama for key talks aimed at forging a partnership between Kabarak University and the University of Venda (South Africa) for the establishment of the African Musicology Institute (AMI).

The proposed institute, a visionary initiative by Prof. Mapaya and Prof. Wanyama, seeks to advance the study, preservation, and promotion of African music traditions and scholarship across the continent.

Also in attendance were Dr. Michael Ndonye, Dean of the School of Music and Media and AMI board member, together with members of the Kabarak University AMI team: Dr. Joyce Mochere, Mr. Amon Kirui, and Mr. Kadupe Sofola.

This strategic collaboration underscores Kabarak University’s dedication to strengthening academic partnerships that celebrate African identity, cultural heritage, and innovation in higher education.
