Kabarak University Joins in Faithful Celebration: Commemorating 20 Years with the Light Christian Center

In an atmosphere charged with spiritual fervor, Kabarak University's School of Music and Media embarked on a profound journey on the 19th and 20th of August 2023. Their destination: the Light Christian Center in Machakos Town, where they joined in celebrating the church's remarkable 20th anniversary. Led by the warm and gracious host, Bishop Julius Wambua Kituku, a delegation from Kabarak University, including Dr. Anthony Somba, the Registrar of Academic and Research, Prof. Melitus Wanyama, the Dean of the School of Music and Media, Mr. Evans Erick Ochieng, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, and a group of enthusiastic students, marked the university's honored presence.

This commemorative occasion stood as a testament to the enduring connection between Kabarak University, the church, and the local community. It emphasized the shared values of faith, fellowship, and service that unite these two institutions. Kabarak University's mission to provide holistic, quality education grounded in research, practical skills, and Biblical Christian Values aligns seamlessly with the Light Christian Center's foundation. The university's roots in Christian principles and its commitment to faith-based education run deep, reflecting its unwavering dedication to nurturing the mind, body, and spirit of its students.

The anniversary celebration commenced on Saturday, the 19th of August, with soul-stirring hymns and captivating presentations by Kabarak University students and church members. The harmonious melodies reverberated within the sacred walls of the Light Christian Center, setting the stage for a day filled with gratitude and reflection on God's grace over the church's 20-year journey.

In his address, Prof. Melitus Wanyama, the founding Dean of the School of Music and Media, emphasized the profound role of faith in education and the significance of community engagement. He shed light on the synergistic relationship between educational institutions and the church, stating, "Our presence here today reflects the deep-rooted values we hold dear as a university. We believe in nurturing the mind, body, and spirit, and this exemplifies our commitment to producing well-rounded graduates." Prof. Wanyama also highlighted the importance of music as a profound channel for worship and spiritual connection. He encouraged church members to take advantage of available short courses to enhance their skills in praise and mastery of church instruments.

Moreover, Prof. Wanyama underscored the vital role of media in spreading the message of faith and engaging with a broader audience. He emphasized the importance of proficient media skills in effective communication in the digital age. The Kabarak University School of Music and Media demonstrated their expertise during the event, showcasing impressive skills and professionalism, which serve as a testament to the university's commitment to providing experienced staff and state-of-the-art equipment for skill enhancement.

The anniversary celebration not only commemorated the years gone by but also spotlighted the church's enduring achievements and its continued impact on the community and beyond. The church acknowledged milestones such as growth in membership, support for university students, initiatives to aid single mothers, and caring for orphans, among others. As part of their forward-looking vision, the Light Christian Center is planning to open a branch in Mombasa within the year.

Following the ceremony, the Kabarak University fraternity extended their presence to the AIC Bomani in Machakos town for a Sunday service, where the students delivered exemplary performances, further cementing the university's commitment to faith, fellowship, and community engagement.
