How a university is seen, understood and recognised beyond its campus increasingly matters in a competitive global higher education environment. For Kabarak University, this was the focus of a two-day workshop held on Monday, 5 October, and Tuesday, 6 October 2026, which brought together university leaders and staff to examine how the institution can strengthen its global visibility and reputation.
Held under the theme “Positioning Kabarak University for Global Recognition,” the workshop brought together members of the University Management Board, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, academic staff and representatives from key administrative and support units whose work contributes to the University's visibility and institutional reputation.
The sessions focused on areas including global visibility and university reputation, digital marketing and engagement, research discoverability, ranking readiness, branding, strategic communication and institutional self-assessment. The discussions provided an opportunity to assess the University's current visibility and identify practical ways of communicating its strengths more effectively to local, regional and international audiences.
Prof. Rosemond Boohene, Professor of Enterprise Development at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, and former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, facilitated the workshop. Her experience in higher education leadership, internationalisation, institutional development, strategic partnerships and university-industry engagement provided valuable perspectives throughout the two-day engagement.
Speaking during the opening session, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat emphasised the need for the University to be deliberate in how it communicates its strengths, demonstrates its impact and positions itself for greater recognition.
He noted that institutional visibility should go beyond publicity. It should be reflected in the quality of teaching and learning, research and innovation, community engagement, partnerships and the contribution of graduates to society.
The two-day engagement also provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on how different units contribute to the University's overall institutional profile. Discussions around digital platforms, research visibility, branding and communication highlighted the importance of a coordinated approach in presenting Kabarak University's work to the wider world.
