Kabarak University Strengthens Academic Quality Assurance Through Capacity-Building Seminar

Deans, Heads of Departments and Coordinators at Kabarak University came together on 18 September 2026 for a one-day seminar focused on academic quality assurance and the practical aspects of academic administration.

Organised by the Directorate of Quality Assurance and Institutional Planning (QAIP), led by Dr. Edwin Akumu, the seminar allowed academic leaders to review the University’s quality standards, procedures and the role they play in teaching, learning and academic administration.

The sessions focused on the practical implementation of academic procedures within schools and departments. Participants discussed areas including unit allocation guidelines, academic processes and the application of quality assurance requirements in their day-to-day work.

The seminar also featured detailed discussions on Academic Quality Assurance. Through presentations and question-and-answer sessions, participants raised issues from their respective schools and departments, sought clarification, and shared experiences on areas that require closer attention.

The seminar was officially opened by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, who joined members of the University leadership and academic community during the programme.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor called for consistent application of academic policies and procedures across the University. He said quality assurance requires the active involvement of academic leaders and encouraged Deans, Heads of Departments and Coordinators to regularly review their processes, address gaps and work together to improve academic administration.

Prof. Kiplangat also stressed the need to keep students at the centre of these processes by ensuring that teaching and learning meet the University’s academic standards and give students a quality learning experience.

The seminar provided an opportunity for academic leaders to take stock of current practices and discuss practical steps for improving the management of academic processes across the University.
