New members of staff have begun their journey at Kabarak University with an orientation seminar designed to help them understand the University's culture, values, policies and expectations.
The one-day seminar brought together newly recruited staff, members of the University Management Board, academic deans and directors. It offered an opportunity for the new staff to learn about the institution and what is expected of them in their respective roles.
Sessions covered a range of areas, including University policies, faith and learning, teaching responsibilities, digital literacy, quality assurance, financial procedures, library resources, ISO standards, 21st-century skills and ICT services.
Opening the seminar, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat welcomed the new staff to Kabarak University and congratulated them on successfully completing a competitive recruitment process. He reminded them that taking up a position at the University comes with the responsibility to play a meaningful part in its work and growth.
He noted that every role matters, whether in teaching, administration, security or other areas of University operations. He encouraged the new staff to work with professionalism, integrity and teamwork while keeping students and service at the centre of their work.
The Vice-Chancellor also spoke about Kabarak's identity and its commitment to quality education in Biblical perspective. Understanding the University's history, vision, mission, structure and policies, he noted, would help the new staff settle into their roles and build strong working relationships.
For teaching staff, the programme included sessions on lecturer responsibilities and relevant Commission for University Education requirements. Other sessions focused on quality assurance, digital learning, financial procedures, ICT and the effective use of University resources.
The orientation also encouraged staff to keep learning and adapting as higher education continues to change. Digital technology, new approaches to teaching and evolving student needs require staff to keep building their skills and remaining open to new ideas.
With the orientation complete, the new members of staff now join the wider Kabarak University community, ready to take up their responsibilities and contribute to the University's work of providing holistic education.
