Vice-Chancellor’s Address to First-Year Students from January, May, and September Intakes Inspires Kabarak University's New Cohort

Our newest cohort of students from the January, May, and September 2025 Intakes was officially welcomed today during an address by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, at the University Auditorium.

The address celebrated the students’ arrival at the institution and set a powerful tone for their academic journey.

Prof. Kiplangat began by extending a heartfelt welcome on behalf of the entire university community. He highlighted the rich history of Kabarak, noting that its name is derived from the Tugen words 'ka' (home) and 'barak' (top), a fitting description for the village where the late Second President of Kenya and Founder of the University, His Excellency Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, was born.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the university is built on the declaration in Job 8:7: "a modest beginning will be followed by great prosperity if one seeks the Lord diligently." He stressed that the core identity of Kabarak University is its commitment to providing "World-Class Education in Biblical Perspective."

A central theme of the address was the pursuit of excellence. Quoting Colin Powell, the Vice-Chancellor stated, “excellence is not an exception; it is a prevailing attitude.”

Prof. Kiplangat strongly encouraged the new students to abandon the notion of universities as places for carelessness. Instead, he urged them to "fold your sleeves and work hard and smart for excellence." He reminded them that excellence is not automatic; it requires "an investment of your time, energy and resources. In short, it needs an investment of your life!" This call to diligence is essential for developing the 21st-century skills necessary for success in a competitive global market.

The Vice-Chancellor reassured the freshmen of unwavering support from the highest levels of the institution, including the Chancellor, the Trustees, the Governing Council, the University Management Board, the Schools, and every office. He concluded the ceremony with a powerful blessing from Numbers 6:24-26 “The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”

The students left the auditorium energized and with a clear understanding of the university's expectation of their diligent pursuit of knowledge and virtue.
