Kabarak University Celebrates Mazingira Day in Style at Emining Special School for the Visually Impaired

On Thursday, 10th October 2024, Kabarak University marked Mazingira Day with a heartwarming and impactful celebration at Emining Special School for the Visually Impaired. Led by Rhoda Chemoiwo of the Procurement Department and Pr. Esther Mwende Kapsir of Student Affairs, the university’s staff, students, and friends came together for a day of service. The event saw the participation of diverse groups, including Peer Counsellors, Christian Union, Red Cross, Kenya Model United Nations, and other departments. Their collective presence made this day truly memorable for the students and staff of the institution, embodying the essence of unity and selflessness.
The activities carried out during the day were both diverse and meaningful. Volunteers enthusiastically engaged in slashing grass, cleaning the compound, washing clothes, tidying student rooms, cooking, feeding, and offering both counselling and entertainment. The power and spirit of unity were evident as everyone worked hand in hand to ensure the day was productive and joyful. The teamwork and cooperation among the participants highlighted the profound bond that exists within the Kabarak University family, spreading love and care throughout the day.

The event's climax was the heartfelt presentation of gifts to the learners. Kabarak University and its friends and supporters donated school uniforms for all the students, foodstuffs, toiletries, and other essential items. These thoughtful gifts were a testament to the university’s commitment to improving the lives of the learners and making a positive, lasting impact on the school community. The gratitude and joy were palpable as students and staff expressed their heartfelt thanks for the university's generosity.

Kabarak University extends its deepest appreciation to all the staff, students, and friends who contributed to this worthy cause. Without their dedication and donations, the day would not have been such a success. The Vice-Chancellor and the entire University Management Board have also been acknowledged for their continued support of initiatives that align with the university’s mission of community service and development. This event beautifully captured the quote shared during the celebration: "If you can't be a pencil that writes someone's future, then be a rubber that erases their sorrow."

As Kenya celebrates its first official Mazingira Day, Kabarak University’s efforts to make an environmental and social impact at Emining Special School resonate with the broader national movement. This holiday, previously known as Utamaduni Day, was renamed to focus on environmental conservation under the leadership of President William Ruto. The university's participation in this celebration highlights its commitment to being part of the country’s vision for a greener, more sustainable future, in line with the government’s goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
