Training for Academic Staff on ICT Integration and Competency-Based Education

Kabarak University, through the Directorate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (DELT), has commenced a four-day mandatory training for all teaching staff. The training, which began on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the University Auditorium, is designed to equip faculty with essential skills in ICT integration, competency-based education (CBE), and e-learning module development.

The sessions run daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and bring together lecturers from all schools. This initiative underscores the University’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment.

During the opening session, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, PhD, MBS, OGW, conveyed his message emphasizing the importance of adopting technology-driven and competency-based approaches to meet the evolving demands of higher education. His speech and official remarks were delivered on his behalf by Prof. John Ochola, PhD, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Research), who encouraged staff to embrace innovative teaching strategies that align with Kabarak University’s mission of providing holistic education founded on Biblical Christian values.

The program, facilitated by leading scholars and experts, covers key areas including:

  • ICT Integration in Teaching, Learning, and Research
  • Competency-Based Assessment in Higher Education
  • Digital Pedagogy and Emerging Technologies
  • Academic Integrity in the Era of Generative AI
  • Development of E-Learning Modules for Asynchronous Learning

Speaking during the session, Dr. Lydia Kobiah, PhD, Acting Director of DELT, noted that this training is not only about compliance but also about empowering staff to effectively deliver learner-centered, technology-enabled education.

By the close of the training on Friday, September 5, 2025, academic staff will be equipped with practical tools and strategies for designing competency-based learning activities, developing digital content, and applying innovative assessment methods that ensure fairness, quality, and continuous improvement.

This training demonstrates Kabarak University’s proactive role in preparing faculty to address current and future educational challenges while nurturing graduates who are both competent and globally competitive.
