Kabarak University joined four Kenyan universities in a significant strategic engagement aimed at strengthening academic collaboration with Millersville University. The initial joint meeting, held on February 11, 2026, was convened by the Embassy of Kenya in Washington, D.C. and brought together Kenyan institutions currently partnering with Millersville University to network, share updates, and align their collaboration frameworks for greater impact.
The universities represented included Kabarak University, Maasai Mara University, Tharaka Nithi University, Moi University, and the University of Nairobi. Kabarak University was represented by Dr. Antony Somba and Pamela Kimeto Ting’ei. The meeting provided an opportunity for each institution to outline its current areas of collaboration with Millersville University. Maasai Mara University and Tharaka Nithi University are collaborating in social service programs, Moi University is engaged in business-related courses, while the University of Nairobi is pursuing engineering collaboration.
Kabarak University’s partnership history was also highlighted, particularly the 2022 training conducted at Kabarak by Millersville University on 21st-century teaching skills. This capacity-building initiative strengthened modern pedagogical approaches and reinforced academic excellence within the University. Other institutions were encouraged to organize similar faculty development programs to enhance teaching innovation and academic quality.
A key outcome of the February 11 meeting was the resolution by the five universities to form a consortium. Through this consortium, the institutions are committed to strengthening existing collaborative programs with Millersville University while also developing independent partnerships aligned with their respective institutional priorities. The consortium framework will promote student and faculty exchange programs, facilitate joint conferences, and enhance collaboration in research, academic programs, and community outreach. This structured approach is expected to ensure sustainability, coordination, and measurable impact across all participating institutions.
A follow-up high-level meeting was subsequently held on February 16, 2026, at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. The Kenyan delegation was led by H.E. David Kerich, who paid an official visit to the University and held discussions with President Daniel A. Wubah and Provost Victor DeSantis. The discussions underscored education, research collaboration, and people-to-people exchanges as central pillars of Kenya–U.S. relations. The Ambassador commended the growing partnerships between Millersville University and Kenyan institutions and emphasized the importance of building long-term, structured academic cooperation.
Deliberations during the meeting focused on launching innovative initiatives such as dual-degree programs, joint research projects, faculty exchange programs, structured student mobility pathways, and expanded scholarship opportunities. The upcoming joint conference between Kabarak University and Millersville University was discussed extensively, with participating universities encouraged to contribute through paper presentations and active attendance. Millersville University leadership confirmed their participation in the conference, signaling a strong institutional commitment to the partnership.
For Kabarak University, the engagements opened strategic opportunities across several academic units. The School of Business & Economics will explore structured collaboration with Millersville University, drawing benchmarking insights from Moi University’s existing business partnership. The School of Science, Engineering & Technology will seek to leverage the existing engineering collaboration between Millersville University and the University of Nairobi to establish complementary initiatives. Additionally, discussions are underway to strengthen collaboration between Kabarak University’s Master’s in Nursing program and Millersville University’s corresponding graduate program, with steps toward formalizing this partnership in progress.
These engagements signal a renewed and coordinated push to build long-term education partnerships anchored in innovation, research excellence, and meaningful global engagement.
