Sports play an integral role in a student’s life, fostering physical health, mental well-being, and invaluable life skills. This sentiment is beautifully captured by Kapil Dev, the legendary Indian cricketer, who once said: “Sports teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose, it teaches you about life.”
In recognition of the transformative power of sports, Nakuru City Campus organized its Sports Day on November 15, 2024, an event that brought students and staff together in a spirited celebration of athleticism and camaraderie.
This semester, the event saw an impressive increase in student participation in both indoor and outdoor games, a testament to the growing enthusiasm for sports on campus. Much of this success can be attributed to the availability of improved facilities, including the recently constructed modern basketball court.
The vibrant participants engaged in a variety of activities, including darts, chess, scrabble, pool, table tennis, karate, basketball, and the crowd-favorite egg race. The egg race, in particular, stood out as a highlight, with participants showcasing creative tactics to outpace their competitors, much to the delight of the cheering spectators.
As the day came to a close, students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to showcase their talents and enjoy recreational activities that promote a positive, well-rounded student experience. The winners of various events are set to be recognized with medals and certificates, further encouraging the spirit of excellence and participation.
Special thanks go to the Campus Director, Dr. Waiganjo, for his unwavering support of sports activities at Nakuru City Campus. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the University Management for its dedication to fostering an environment that supports the holistic development of our students.
Through initiatives like this, Nakuru City Campus continues to nurture well-rounded individuals who embody excellence, teamwork, and resilience.
