Kabarak University Strengthens Research Commercialization Efforts

Kabarak University is proud to have participated in a vital program designed to bridge the gap between research and commercialization. Viktoria Ventures, in partnership with KENIA, held a two-week Training of Trainers (TOT) program in March and May 2024, focusing on "Running a Successful Research to Commercialization (R2C) Program."

This program aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to establish and manage effective R2C initiatives within their respective institutions. Kabarak University was well-represented, with Ms. Faith Yator emerging as a successful applicant after a competitive selection process.

The intensive training, held at Lake Naivasha Lodge and Sawela Lodge Naivasha, brought together representatives from various universities, including Embu, Riara, Meru, and Egerton. Participants delved into critical areas like design thinking, intellectual property (IP) management and monetization, monitoring and impact measurement, gender equity and social inclusion, business mentoring and coaching, grant application strategies, and the negotiation process.

This valuable training empowers Ms. Yator to implement an R2C program at Kabarak University. This program will provide researchers with the necessary support to translate their innovative ideas into commercially viable products and services, ultimately benefiting society and the Kenyan economy.

Aligning with a National Initiative

Kabarak University's participation in the R2C program aligns perfectly with a national call to action. The recent "Calling For Applications for R2C, ToT Cohort 5" aimed to identify passionate individuals dedicated to building research commercialization capacity across Kenya. This program offered participants the opportunity to:

  • Develop skills in training and mentoring researchers on translating research into impactful innovations.
  • Become leaders in fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within research institutions.
  • Contribute to a program driving positive change in Kenya's innovation ecosystem.

By participating in the R2C program, Kabarak University demonstrates its commitment to not only conducting groundbreaking research but also translating that research into tangible benefits for society. Ms. Yator's participation in the ToT program positions Kabarak University at the forefront of this national initiative, empowering researchers and fostering a culture of innovation.
