On Friday, December 20th, 2024, Kabarak University proudly hosted its 20th Graduation Ceremony at the University sports grounds, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s illustrious history. This momentous event celebrated the achievements of 2,541 graduates, the highest number in the university’s history, underscoring Kabarak’s unwavering commitment to providing holistic, quality education rooted in Biblical Christian values. The growth of new market-driven programs has led to this increase, reflecting a 36% rise from last year. The ceremony was a vibrant blend of tradition, inspiration, and celebration, reflecting the university’s mission to transform lives through education.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including the Chief Guest, The Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, EGH. A seasoned statesman, entrepreneur, and pan-Africanist, Hon. Odinga has dedicated decades to championing infrastructure development, peace, and African unity. He is a former Prime Minister of Kenya and has played critical roles in mediating peace in Africa. His presence underscored the importance of education in fostering leadership and societal transformation.
Hon. Dr. Gideon Kipsielei Towett Moi, Chancellor of Kabarak University, presided over the ceremony, inspiring graduates to embody resilience, integrity, and service. Dr. John Kibosia, Chairman of the University Governing Council and other council members, reiterated the university's commitment to academic and operational excellence. Prof. Henry Kiplangat, Vice-Chancellor, highlighted the university’s achievements, including launching innovative programs in Artificial Intelligence and Oncology Pharmacy and completing key infrastructure projects like the Law School twin building.
The ceremony was attended by members of the University Management Board (UMB), including Deputy Vice-Chancellors Prof. John N. Ochola (Academic and Research) and Prof. Ronald Chepkilot (Administration and Finance), registrars, school deans, and directors. They collectively celebrated the Class of 2024’s accomplishments and reaffirmed their dedication to nurturing future leaders.
Graduation statistics revealed the breadth of academic excellence at Kabarak. Among the 2,541 graduates, degrees were awarded across diverse schools: 600 in the School of Business and Economics, 500 in the School of Law, and 400 in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, among others. The overall pass rate was an impressive 95%, with 150 students receiving Awards of Excellence in Academics and 100 excelling in Co-curricular Activities. Special moments included the symbolic movement of tassels, signifying the graduates' transition to alumni status.
In his speech, Hon. Odinga encouraged graduates to use their education to drive innovation and societal development. Chancellor Hon. Dr. Moi emphasized Kabarak University’s role as a key player in Kenya’s higher education landscape, showcasing the university’s strides in research, international collaborations, and student achievements.
The Kabarak University Choir added a spiritual dimension to the event with its uplifting performances, and the Kenya Wildlife Service Band set a tone of pride and unity.
