Earlier today, Kabarak University held its weekly chapel service, which featured a visiting team from Focus Kenya. Mr. Simon Kande, the National Director of Focus Kenya, was ushered onto the stage by the Provost, Rev. Prof. Jacob Kibor, and he introduced his team members before telling the congregation about Focus Kenya.
Focus Kenya is an umbrella body that links and networks Christian unions from different universities and colleges in Kenya. Their aim is to facilitate mutual support, inter-campus sharing of ideas, and the sharpening of leadership capacities for effective Christian work within the affiliated institutions and later in the world of work. The organization operates along strong Christian principles of accountability and shared leadership.
Earlier in the morning, the Focus Kenya team had a meeting to discuss a conference that will be held at Kabarak's grounds later this year. Mr. Simon Kande spoke highly of Kabarak University's facilities and informed the congregation that Kabarak University has been their hosting grounds since 2004, and they do not see themselves going anywhere else.
After Mr. Kande's presentation, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor took over to award the second and first runners-up of the crowning of Mr. and Miss Kabarak University competitions. He then invited the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat, onto the stage to award the winners of the 2023 Kabarak University Gala Awards.
Kelio Sharon was crowned Miss Kabarak 2023, and Mr. Austine Itebete was crowned Mr. Kabarak 2023. The Vice-Chancellor encouraged everyone to identify their talents and invest in them since Kabarak is there and very willing to make sure that their talents are nurtured and well-exposed.
Overall, the Wednesday chapel service at Kabarak University was an opportunity for students to learn about the Christian organization that is working to promote Christian leadership and accountability among university students in Kenya. The event also provided a platform for the university to recognize and celebrate the talents of its students, highlighting the importance of nurturing and supporting talent in the university community.
