Freshmen Inspired as Vice-Chancellor Address Highlights Purpose and Excellence During Kabarak University Orientation

A new academic journey began on a high note as first-year students gathered at the Kabarak University Main Auditorium for an inspiring orientation session marked by encouragement, reflection, and practical guidance for university life. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat, delivered a compelling address that officially welcomed the freshmen into the university community while challenging them to pursue excellence, personal growth, and strong moral values throughout their studies.

Drawing inspiration from Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, Prof. Kiplangat likened the university experience to a journey of discovering one’s “Personal Legend.” He urged students to remain focused on their purpose, embrace challenges with courage, and stay committed to their dreams even when faced with difficulties along the way.

“Excellence is not an exception; it is a prevailing attitude,” the Vice-Chancellor told the students, a message that resonated deeply as they prepared to begin their academic journey.

The orientation session also featured remarks from members of the university management and faculty leadership. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Deans, and representatives from various schools reassured students of the institution’s commitment to supporting them academically, spiritually, and socially throughout their studies.

Speakers emphasized holistic development, noting that university education goes beyond academics to include character formation, discipline, leadership, and service to society. Students were encouraged to use their time wisely, remain focused on their studies, and actively engage in opportunities that would shape their future.

One of the most engaging moments of the session was the interactive question-and-answer segment, where students had the opportunity to engage directly with the Vice-Chancellor and other university leaders. The freshmen raised thoughtful questions about campus life, academic programmes, mentorship opportunities, and student support services, creating an open and lively atmosphere of dialogue.

To make the session even more memorable, several students who actively participated were rewarded with gifts from the Vice-Chancellor, a gesture that strengthened the warm connection between university leadership and the incoming class.

It is worth noting that part of the orientation experience also included a friendly football match earlier in the day, adding to the spirit of camaraderie and helping the new students bond in an informal setting before the formal session.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Kiplangat reminded students of the university’s strong moral standards and encouraged them to make wise decisions throughout their academic journey.

“This university has zero tolerance for drugs and sexual immorality. Choose your friends wisely and remain grounded in your faith,” he advised.

He further encouraged students to draw strength and hope from Isaiah 40:31 whenever they face challenges or moments of uncertainty.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Trinity Gichuhi from the School of Music and Media. As the freshmen exited the auditorium, they did so with a sense of belonging, renewed purpose, and excitement for the journey ahead.
