Kabarak University Hosts Kenya Association of Private Universities for Annual General Meeting

In a resounding demonstration of their commitment to excellence and innovation in higher education, the Kenya Association of Private Universities (KAPU), chaired by Rev. Prof. Stephen Mbugua Ngari, Vice-Chancellor of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, convened today, August 17, 2023, for their Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the prestigious Kabarak University, received by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry Kiplangat. The gathering marked a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts of private institutions dedicated to providing high-quality tertiary education across Kenya.

Private universities in Kenya have proven to be pillars of distinction in the country's educational landscape, fulfilling crucial needs and contributing significantly to the development of a well-rounded student body. These institutions have always strived to meet the demands of both students and society at large, offering education that goes beyond the classroom to instill core values and encourage innovative thinking.

The hallmark of private universities has been the unwavering commitment to quality education, a trait that has resonated with parents and students alike. The unique combination of academic rigor, personalized attention, and a focus on cultivating values and innovation has set private universities apart. With each passing year, the rising number of students opting for private universities, facilitated by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), stands as a testament to the trust and confidence that students and their families have in these institutions.

The AGM held at Kabarak University saw spirited discussions and deliberations on a range of issues affecting KAPU's member institutions, particularly those that have come to the fore in recent months. One of the key topics on the agenda was a call to the government to review the funding model for private universities. This request reflects the sector's commitment to maintaining high standards while advocating for equitable support that ensures sustainability and continued growth.

In the face of evolving challenges, private universities have demonstrated their resilience by implementing strategic measures aimed at bolstering their long-term sustainability. These measures not only underscore the determination of private institutions to thrive but also reflect their enduring dedication to enriching the academic landscape and producing graduates who are well-prepared to contribute to society.

The AGM held at Kabarak University serves as a powerful reminder of the collective strength and shared values that unite private universities in Kenya. As these institutions continue to drive innovation, instill values, and offer outstanding education, they remain dedicated to their mission of providing a solid foundation for Kenya's future leaders.
