Recognizing this urgent need, Kabarak University has forged a strategic partnership with Internews Organization by signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration underscores the university's commitment to empowering students and staff with the skills needed to thrive in an era dominated by digital complexity.
The MoU signing ceremony, hosted at Kabarak University’s main campus, was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat. Calling the partnership “a most timely initiative,” Prof. Kiplangat highlighted the critical role of education in addressing the challenges of misinformation and disinformation. “As educators, we must equip our students to critically engage with the information ecosystem before stepping into the workforce. This MoU is a significant stride toward that goal,” he stated. The event was graced by members of the University Management Board, including Prof. Mellitus Wanyama, Dean of the School of Music and Media, and Dr. Michael Ndonye, Head of the Mass Communication Department.
The Internews delegation, led by Fatuma Sanbur, Kenya Country Lead and Regional Program Manager for East and Southern Africa, emphasized the collaborative spirit of the partnership. Joining her were Abraham Mariita, Project Director of KenSafeSpace, and Njeri Mbuthi, Regional Program Associate. Their visit to Kabarak University showcased the growing synergy between the two institutions, with Internews already delivering two transformative digital media literacy training sessions for both students and faculty.
