On the 7th of May, the 24th Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students (Kenya Division Finals) was grandly held in Nairobi. After a rigorous selection process, 20 outstanding contestants from various Kenyan universities advanced to the final round of the competition.
Among them was Ivy Irene Wairimu Maina, a student from the HSK 2 class at Kabarak University. As one of the finalists, she demonstrated exceptional proficiency in the Chinese language and captivated the audience with a Chinese-style dance performance titled “Xiao” (骁), which earned her the Outstanding Award.
Ivy began her performance with a fluent and natural Chinese speech, sharing her inspiring journey of learning the language and her unique perspective on the friendship between Kenya and China. During the knowledge Q&A segment, she impressed the judges with her thorough understanding of the Chinese language and culture, answering all questions correctly.
For the talent showcase, Ivy performed the classical Chinese dance “Xiao” dressed in traditional Hanfu attire. Her powerful yet graceful movements blended traditional aesthetics with modern stage expression, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
This competition not only highlighted Ivy’s personal talents but also reflected the remarkable strides Kabarak University has made in promoting Chinese language education and cultural exchange. Moving forward, we remain committed to advancing Chinese language education and fostering stronger cultural ties between Kenya and China.
