The Kabarak University Directorate of Research, Innovation and Outreach recently conducted a focused training for members of the Institutional Scientific Ethics Review Committee (ISERC) aimed at strengthening its capacity in protocol review processes and reinforcing adherence to current ethical standards and best practices in research.
This retooling session was designed to enhance the committee’s effectiveness in evaluating research proposals, particularly in areas concerning participant protection, risk–benefit analysis, informed consent procedures, data confidentiality, and safeguards for vulnerable populations. By sharpening these competencies, the University continues to uphold its commitment to responsible, ethical, and high-quality research that safeguards human dignity and integrity.
The training was facilitated by Dr. Miriam Muga, Coordinator of the Scientific and Ethics Review Committee at Kabarak University, together with experienced University lecturers, including Dr. Rev. Koros, Ms. Sally Suge, and Dr. Michael Walekhwa. Their expertise guided participants through practical review scenarios, ethical evaluation frameworks, and institutional expectations aligned with national and international research ethics guidelines.

At Kabarak, ethics is treated as a responsibility we carry with conviction. By investing in the continuous growth of our review committees, we are deliberately strengthening the moral and academic foundation upon which all our research stands, ensuring that every approved study reflects both intellectual rigor and deep respect for human dignity.
