Kabarak University today hosted a high-level delegation from the University of Venda (UNIVEN), South Africa, led by Prof. Bernard Nthambeleni, Vice Chancellor of the University of Venda. He was accompanied by Prof. Madimabe Geoff Mapaya, Professor in the Department of Arts and Social Sciences. The delegation was received by Kabarak University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, accompanied by members of the University Management and faculty.
The visit marked an important step in strengthening the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions, particularly in relation to the governance and strategic direction of the African Musicology Institute (AMI). Discussions focused on reinforcing the Board of Management framework to ensure the Institute remains a robust, sustainable, and impactful continental initiative.

During the engagement, the two universities shared insights on their respective strengths, best practices, and academic experiences, with a view to deepening collaboration in teaching, research, and innovation. The dialogue emphasised the vast potential of the African Musicology Institute as a platform for advancing African scholarship, preserving indigenous musical heritage, and promoting African-centered academic narratives on the global stage.
Key areas of collaboration discussed included the development of joint academic programs, student and staff exchange initiatives, collaborative research projects, and shared use of expertise and resources. Both institutions expressed a shared commitment to nurturing a dynamic partnership that will contribute meaningfully to cultural scholarship and capacity building across the continent.
As the African Musicology Institute continues to take shape, the collaboration between Kabarak University and the University of Venda stands as a powerful example of purposeful academic cooperation aimed at transforming higher education and cultural research in Africa.
