This past week, Kabarak University concluded its Health Awareness Week, which ran from the 23rd to the 27th of September, 2024. The week was filled with impactful sessions and activities aimed at promoting holistic well-being, particularly focusing on sexual and reproductive health, cancer screening, HIV and STI prevention, and psychoeducation. Organized by the Kabarak University Counselling Section in collaboration with Dandelion Africa, the event was a resounding success, engaging students and staff from both the Main and City Campuses.
Throughout the week, over 20 participants, including six doctors, four counsellors, and 10 peer counsellors, were actively involved in delivering various health services and education. The event not only focused on raising awareness about critical health issues but also provided practical support, such as cancer screening, HIV testing, and psychoeducation.
One of the highlights of the week was the Sexual and Reproductive Health Education session held on Thursday, 26th September. Conducted separately at the Men’s and Ladies’ Hostels, the session was facilitated by counsellors, peer counsellors, and experts from Dandelion Africa. The discussions covered crucial topics, including safe sexual practices, reproductive health rights, and STI prevention.
The Vice-Chancellor and the entire Kabarak University management were instrumental in ensuring the success of this event. Their unwavering support, alongside the Dean of Students and the University Provost, provided the foundation for a week of life-changing conversations and activities. We extend our deepest appreciation to them for their dedication to student wellness.
We also wish to thank our Counsellors, Peer Counsellors, KABU Medical Centre, and our invaluable partners at Dandelion Africa. Together, their collective efforts ensured the smooth running of the week’s events, making this initiative a remarkable success.
Kabarak University remains committed to promoting health, well-being, and moral integrity, in alignment with our institutional values. As we look to the future, the lessons learned and health tips shared during this week will resonate with our community for years to come.
To our students and staff: Let us continue prioritizing our health and well-being!
