Today, as the world marks International Nurses Day, we proudly join hands with the Nursing Council of Kenya to celebrate the remarkable achievements of nurses whose service continues to transform lives across the globe.
Among these outstanding professionals is Lucy Kiprop, a distinguished alumna from the pioneer Bachelor of Science in Nursing class of 2014, and the Valedictorian of the 2018 graduation. Lucy has brought immense pride to her alma mater after being honoured with the Nurse of the Year 2026 Award during the Pride in Nursing & Midwifery celebrations held as part of Nurses Week at Ashford & St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust in England on Friday, 8 May 2026.
This prestigious recognition celebrates exceptional dedication to patient care, clinical excellence, compassionate leadership, professionalism, and outstanding contribution to nursing practice.
Lucy’s journey is a powerful testament to what passion, discipline, and quality education can produce. After graduating as a valedictorian, she advanced her academic and professional path by earning a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Nursing with Distinction from London South Bank University, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing.
Her trajectory reflects not only personal ambition but also the strong foundation laid during her training.
International Recognition for Compassionate Leadership
In recognising her achievement, the Trust remarked:
“Lucy Kiprop consistently demonstrates clinical expertise, compassion, and leadership in her nursing practice. She delivers patient-centred care of the highest standard, often going beyond her duties to ensure safety, dignity, and comfort for every patient. Lucy actively mentors colleagues, contributes to service improvements, and remains calm and decisive in high-pressure situations. Her commitment to continuous learning and evidence-based practice has led to measurable improvements in patient outcomes. She embodies professionalism, empathy, and resilience, making her an outstanding and deserving candidate for Nurse of the Year.”

Upon receiving the award, Lucy expressed deep gratitude and joy, describing the recognition as a meaningful milestone in her professional journey.
Lucy’s story is an inspiration to current and future nursing students. It reflects the global impact nurses from Kabarak University continue to make through competence, compassion, and commitment to excellence.
As we celebrate International Nurses Day, we honour not only Lucy’s success but also the noble profession of nursing and the countless nurses who serve humanity with dedication every day.
Her achievement reminds us that when knowledge meets purpose, the results are truly world-changing.
Congratulations, Lucy Kiprop. You are a pride to your profession, your country, and your alma mater.
