Kabarak University Concludes Successful Outreach Mission in Rwanda

Kabarak University has once again demonstrated its commitment to regional engagement, academic diplomacy, and faith-driven leadership following a successful 8-day outreach and marketing mission across Rwanda. Held from 10th to 18th May 2025, the mission sought to deepen institutional visibility, forge academic partnerships, and recruit prospective students from across Kigali and beyond.

The university delegation was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat, and comprised key members of staff, including the Ag. Provost, Rev. Justus Mutuku, Dr. Jean Claude Zigama, Ms. Caroline C. Boinett , Mr. Peter Inziano, and Mr. Gloire Tuyishime. Throughout the week, the team visited schools, universities, and creative institutions while actively promoting Kabarak’s academic programs, flexible learning options, and Christ-centered values. The mission featured strategic engagements, alumni reconnections, and community worship, all contributing to the university's growing presence in the East African region.

Day 1–2: Arrival and Strategic Engagements
The journey began on Saturday, 10th May, with the team departing Nakuru for Nairobi and flying into Kigali the following morning.

The mission officially commenced on Monday, 12th May, with a high-level engagement at Kigali Independent University (ULK). The Kabarak team was warmly received by ULK Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sikubwabo Cyprien, and his executive team. A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed, establishing a framework for collaboration in research, academic exchange, and joint programming.

Later that day, the delegation visited Riviera High School in Kabuga. The Vice-Chancellor addressed Senior Six students, encouraging them to consider Kabarak University as their destination for higher learning. He also extended invitations to staff to enroll in Kabarak’s fully online postgraduate programs.

Day 3: Expanding Reach in Kigali
On Tuesday, 13th May, the team split into two. One group, led by the VC, visited Parents Association for Education (APE) Secondary School in Rugunga, engaging both students and parents. Simultaneously, another team visited Lycée de Kigali (LDK), a STEM-focused public school, where they were granted short sessions with each Senior Six stream. The school later promised a full session during their Friday parade.

In the afternoon, the full team regrouped and visited King David Academy, a premier Christian international school in Kigali. Here, students and staff were introduced to Kabarak’s offerings through detailed presentations. The interest and reception were overwhelmingly positive.

Day 4: Christian and Holistic Education Focus
Wednesday, 14th May was marked by visits to three prominent schools. In the morning, the team visited Star School Rwanda, a Christian institution in Masaka Sector, Kicukiro District. The engagement with Senior Six students was deep and impactful.

In the afternoon, the team split again. One group visited Saint Ignatius School, a Jesuit Catholic institution known for academic excellence and social responsibility. The second team visited APAPER Secondary School, a top private school in Gasabo District. Both institutions welcomed the Kabarak delegation warmly, and the discussions were centered on values-based, high-quality university education.

Day 5: Outreach Beyond Kigali

On Thursday, 15th May, the team, under the leadership of the Provost, traveled over two hours to Kayonza District, east of Kigali. They visited Institut Paroissial de Mukarange (I.P.M), a private secondary school, where they interacted with students and staff. The team showcased Kabarak’s academic opportunities and left a lasting impression of Kabarak as a viable choice for students outside the capital.

Day 6: Strategic School Engagements and the Arts
Friday, 16th May, was one of the busiest days of the mission. With the VC and Provost engaged in an online council meeting, the rest of the team divided into two groups. One visited Wellspring Academy, a Christian international school in Kigali, where they engaged Senior Six students for over two hours. The second team returned to Lycée de Kigali and addressed the entire student body during their morning assembly.

The teams later converged at Groupe Scolaire du Mont Kigali (APACE) for a joint session with staff and students.

In the afternoon, the full delegation, now joined by the VC and Provost, traveled outside Kigali to the Rwanda School of Creative Arts and Music, located approximately two hours away. The institution, known for offering certificate and diploma programs in music and arts, is also where Mr. Gloire Tuyishime began his musical journey. The students treated the team to a powerful musical performance, and the VC shared insights on how they could further their studies at Kabarak University through advanced programs in the creative arts. He affirmed the university’s intent to explore collaboration with this unique and well-equipped institution.

Day 7: Fellowship and Alumni Engagement
Saturday, 17th May, served as a rest day for the team. Although a scheduled meeting with the Rwandan Minister of Education did not take place, the day featured a highlight moment as Dr. Abraham Kuol Nyuon, a Kabarak University alumnus from South Sudan, paid a courtesy call to the VC. Dr. Kuol, now Principal of the Graduate College at the University of Juba, is an Associate Professor of Political Science and a SUSI Scholar of U.S. Foreign Policy. His visit underscored the strength of Kabarak’s alumni network and its continental impact.

In the evening, the team was honored with a dinner invitation at the residence of the bishop from Dr. Zigama’s local church. The VC and the entire team attended, sharing in fellowship and deep conversations that celebrated the mission's success.

Day 8: A Spirit-Filled Conclusion and Safe Return
The mission concluded on Sunday, 18th May, with a powerful worship service at Bethesda Holy Church in Kigali. The Kabarak delegation, led by the VC, joined the congregation in thanksgiving and praise. In his address to the church, Prof. Henry Kiplangat extended greetings and blessings from the entire Kabarak family and emphasized the university’s dedication to serving not just minds but also hearts through Christ-centered education.

Later that night, the team departed Kigali for Nairobi and arrived safely back in Kenya on the morning of Monday, 19th May 2025.

The Rwanda Outreach and Marketing Mission was a resounding success. From high-level partnerships and alumni engagement to student recruitment and community outreach, the mission reflected the heartbeat of Kabarak University: a Christ-centered institution committed to academic excellence, global partnerships, and the transformation of lives through education. As the university continues to expand its footprint in the East African region, Rwanda stands out as a strategic partner in shaping the future of higher education.
