Refining the Future of Healthcare Education: Curriculum Review Training Marks a Milestone at Kabarak University

The recent curriculum review training for the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, orchestrated by the Directorate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (DELT) and expertly led by the Acting Director, Prof. Frederick B.J.A Ngala, PhD, MBS, OGW, marked a significant milestone in academic advancement. On Thursday, May 16th, 2024, at KABUO, training was a dynamic and collaborative endeavor to refine and optimize the educational frameworks within the healthcare disciplines.

Under the guidance of Prof. Ngala, participants embarked on a journey of curriculum development characterized by innovation, rigor, and a steadfast commitment to excellence. Drawing upon his wealth of experience and expertise, Prof. Ngala provided invaluable insights and guidance as participants navigated the complexities of curriculum design, pedagogical strategies, and assessment methodologies tailored to the unique demands of healthcare education.

The training fostered an environment of active engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration, with faculty members, healthcare practitioners, and educational experts coming together to share best practices, exchange ideas, and explore emerging trends in medical education. Through interactive workshops, case-based discussions, and hands-on activities, participants were empowered to critically evaluate existing curricular structures and identify areas for enhancement and innovation.

One of the defining features of the training was its emphasis on student-centered learning and the integration of experiential education opportunities. Prof. Ngala guided participants in developing curricula that prioritize hands-on clinical experiences, interprofessional collaboration, and the cultivation of critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for success in the healthcare field.

As the training progressed, participants were encouraged to reflect on their teaching practices and explore ways to incorporate evidence-based instructional strategies that promote active learning and foster a culture of lifelong learning among students. Through guided exercises and collaborative brainstorming sessions, participants gained practical insights into effective teaching methodologies and assessment techniques tailored to the unique needs of healthcare education.
