On 5th May 2026, Kabarak University conducted a Competency-Based Assessment Training aimed at strengthening the quality and effectiveness of teaching practice, community service learning, and education resource project assessment within the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences.
The training, organized by the Directorate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (DELT), brought together academic staff and assessors for a comprehensive engagement focused on enhancing competency-based education and assessment approaches. The session provided participants with practical insights into effective teaching assessment, classroom management, project implementation, and ethical considerations in field assessment.
The program featured interactive presentations, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions designed to equip participants with updated skills and strategies aligned with modern educational standards. Key areas addressed included lesson preparation and presentation, community service-learning assessment, education resource project evaluation, and teaching practice management.
Speaking during the training, Dr. Lydiah Kobiah, Director DELT, emphasized the importance of competency-based assessment in enhancing the quality of teacher education and ensuring that learners acquire practical and relevant skills for the modern classroom.
The Dean of the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Gladys Kiptiony, also highlighted the need for continuous professional development and effective mentorship in preparing competent, ethical, and innovative educators.
In addition, participants engaged in micro-teaching demonstrations and collaborative discussions that encouraged the sharing of best practices in educational assessment and mentorship. The sessions reinforced the importance of professionalism, ethical conduct, and continuous improvement in the teaching profession.
