Kabarak University Team Shines at Transformative Empretec Entrepreneurship Training Workshop

From October 7th to 12th, 2024, a dedicated team from Kabarak University's Directorate of Research, Innovation, and Outreach (RIO) participated in the prestigious Empretec Entrepreneurship Training Program, held at the Waterbuck Hotel in Nakuru. The workshop, hosted by UNCTAD and ASSEK under The Kenya Industry & Entrepreneurship Project (KIEP), aimed to empower participants with key entrepreneurial skills and competencies.

Representing Kabarak University were Dr. Andrew K. Kipkebut, PhD, Coordinator for Innovation and Business Incubation, and Ms. Faith J. Yator, Coordinator for Outreach and Linkages and Innovation Champion for the KABU TVET Institute. The training provided a unique platform for participants to enhance their entrepreneurial mindset by focusing on areas such as identifying business opportunities, setting challenging goals, and increasing profits in complex situations.

The workshop's objectives, as outlined by UNCTAD, included developing effective business plans, making decisions in difficult situations, and fostering self-confidence among participants. These goals were skillfully achieved through practical exercises that tested the participants' personal entrepreneurial competencies (PECs).

Ms. Faith Yator's exemplary performance during the six-day training was recognized with three prestigious awards:

  1. Best Teamwork Award – for her collaborative spirit and effective teamwork.
  2. Most Profitable Business Case Exercise (BCE) Award – for demonstrating the highest profitability in the BCE exercise.
  3. Personal Achievement Award – for her remarkable personal growth and outstanding contributions throughout the training.

This transformative experience enhanced the entrepreneurial capabilities of Kabarak's representatives and set the stage for future partnerships between Kabarak University and ASSEK, particularly in innovation hub programs.

Kabarak University extends its heartfelt appreciation to ASSEK, UNCTAD, the World Bank, and the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry for organizing this impactful workshop. The university remains committed to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, equipping its members with the skills necessary to thrive in an ever-evolving business landscape.
