A Memorable Day of Community Service at Kabarak University, Nakuru City Campus

On July 12th, 2024, the Kabarak University Nakuru City Campus buzzed with a different kind of energy. Peer counselors and Africa Youth Leadership Forum (AYLF) club members joined forces for a day dedicated to giving back to the community. Led by their ever-supportive counselor and AYLF patron, Ms. Veronicah Kombich, the team embarked on a mission that left a lasting impact on themselves and the community they served.

The day began with a focus on environmental responsibility. United by a common goal, the team tackled the task of cleaning up litter outside the campus compound. Working together, they not only improved the aesthetics of their surroundings but also instilled a deep sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation. This collaborative effort set the tone for a day filled with kindness and purpose.

Following the cleanup, the team's cheerful spirit led them to the Nakuru Hills Special School, a haven for learners with special needs located just a stone's throw away from the Nakuru City Campus. Regular visits have fostered a beautiful friendship between the school and the university team. Upon arrival, the students' faces lit up with priceless smiles, a heartwarming testament to the bond they've built.

Inside the school, the peer counselors and AYLF members rolled up their sleeves once again. They tackled the cleaning of the dining and kitchen areas, further demonstrating their commitment to service. But their efforts extended beyond physical tasks. They actively interacted with the learners, strengthening their friendships and creating a space filled with laughter and joy. To cap off the visit, the team presented the school with a thoughtful gift, which was received with immense appreciation.

As the day drew to a close, a sense of deep satisfaction resonated within the team. They had not only served the community but also embodied the essence of Aesop's timeless quote: "No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." Their acts of kindness and love undoubtedly touched lives and left a positive mark on the world around them.

The team extends its sincere gratitude to the university's management for their unwavering support. This inspiring mission wouldn't have been possible without the university's commitment to fostering a culture of service and social responsibility within its student body.
