Kabarak University Empowers Students and Staff Through Policy Formulation and Research Dissemination Webinar

Kabarak University continues to demonstrate its leadership in education and innovation, hosting events that promote academic excellence and community engagement. Today, the Kabarak University Policy and Research Advocacy Club (KUPPRAC), in partnership with the Directorate of Research, Innovation, and Outreach and the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), organized an insightful online webinar focused on key areas of development for students and staff.

The webinar explored three main topics:

  1. Unveiling ACCESS - Service Learning through WIKI
  2. The Role of Public Participation Forums in Policy Formulation
  3. Dissemination of Research and Its Role in Community Development

The event was facilitated by two distinguished speakers: Dr. Henry Yatich, the lead country coordinator for the ACCESS (African-German Entrepreneurship Academy) project, and Victor Mose, a Senior Policy Analyst at KIPPRA. Dr. Yatich, who serves as the Principal and Senior Research Fellow at Mount Kenya University’s College of Graduate Studies and Research, emphasized that Kabarak University is now fully integrated into the ACCESS program. He highlighted how this service-learning initiative, funded by DAAD, is dedicated to improving employability through innovative tools such as the WIKI platform.

Victor Mose, with over 20 years of experience in capacity building, research, and policy formulation, led a comprehensive session on the importance of public participation in policy-making. He emphasized how engaging communities through forums ensures that policies are inclusive and representative of the people's needs. As a mentor in career development and entrepreneurship, Mose provided valuable insights to both students and staff, encouraging them to take active roles in shaping the future of public policy.

Moderated by Munene Amos and Ms. Faith J. Yator, Coordinator for Outreach and Linkages at Kabarak University, the session also introduced participants to the tools available through the ACCESS program. The project, led by Mount Kenya University in partnership with several institutions, including Kabarak University, aims to implement a national entrepreneurship curriculum, establish ACCESS Student Clubs, and introduce MBA Service-Learning Modules between 2025 and 2029.

This webinar underscores Kabarak University's dedication to promoting employability, entrepreneurship, and community engagement among its academic community. Supported by the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management Board, Kabarak University is proud to be part of this initiative, which empowers both students and staff with essential skills for the future.
