Kabarak University proudly participated in the Deep Learning Indaba 2025, held at the University of Rwanda’s Kigali Convention and Exhibition Hub from 17th to 22nd August 2025. This prestigious event, themed “Strengthening African AI: Urunana – Hand in Hand for AI in Africa,” brought together leading researchers, academics, innovators, industry experts, and students from across the continent and beyond to share knowledge and shape the future of Artificial Intelligence in Africa.
The University was represented by a dedicated team of faculty members and students from the School of Science, Engineering, and Technology. Guided by their faculty mentors, the delegation immersed themselves in the week-long program, which featured keynote lectures, technical workshops, panel discussions, poster exhibitions, and networking forums. The sessions provided rich learning opportunities on emerging topics such as machine learning, natural language processing, robotics, responsible AI, and the role of higher education institutions in building Africa’s AI capacity.
Through these engagements, the Kabarak University team gained deep insights into the practical applications of AI in addressing African socio-economic challenges, as well as the policy and ethical considerations shaping technology adoption. They interacted with world-class researchers and innovators, exchanging ideas and building networks that will foster collaboration in teaching, research, and innovation. For students, the exposure to real-world projects and mentorship opportunities proved invaluable, while faculty participants acquired new perspectives that will inform curriculum development and enrich classroom teaching.
Kabarak University’s participation in the Deep Learning Indaba 2025 is expected to yield long-lasting benefits. The knowledge gained and networks established will strengthen the University’s research and innovation agenda, enhance its role in advancing AI education in the region, and position it as an active contributor to Africa’s growing AI ecosystem.
