Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry Kiplangat hosted senior leaders from Compassion International Kenya (CIK) for a Vice-Chancellor’s Breakfast at the Daniel Arap Moi Library Conference Dining Hall ahead of the official opening of the Youth Summit at the University’s Convocation Hall.
The meeting brought together CIK National Director Mr. Wambugu Samuel and Senior Managers Ms. Catherine Wamiti, Mr. Newton Midamba and Mr. Justus Muinde. It provided an opportunity for both institutions to review the progress of their partnership and discuss how to support young people as they move towards greater independence.
The partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding, currently supports more than 1,200 young people aged 18 to 22. The programme focuses on life skills, mentorship, skills development and helping the youth find practical ways to become economically self-reliant as they transition out of sponsorship programmes.
Prof. Kiplangat spoke about Kabarak University’s role in the partnership, including hosting youth conferences and providing skills training through the University and the Kabarak University TVET Institute.
He also pointed to the University’s certificate and diploma programmes as an option for young people looking for affordable and practical training. Diploma graduates can also progress to degree programmes through available credit transfer pathways.
The CIK delegation later joined participants at the Convocation Hall for the official opening of the Youth Summit.
The partnership between Kabarak University and Compassion International Kenya is giving young people more than short-term support. It is helping them gain skills, confidence and opportunities that can shape what comes next in their lives.
