The vibrant and impactful Health Awareness Week at Kabarak University successfully concluded today, marking a week of intensive health education, screening, and community engagement aimed at promoting holistic well-being among students, staff, and the surrounding community.
The week featured a wide range of activities focused on key health priorities. These included reproductive health talks alongside cervical cancer screening, breast cancer screening, HIV testing, STI awareness, and broader reproductive health education. These sessions provided participants with vital information and access to essential health services, encouraging early detection and informed health choices.
Mental health awareness was also a central focus, with targeted sensitisation sessions held in recognition of Men’s Mental Health Month. Participants were encouraged to openly discuss mental well-being, reduce stigma, and embrace available support systems within the university community.

In addition, a peer counsellor’s capacity-building workshop and group discussions were conducted. These sessions strengthened the peer counsellors’ skills in self-care, active listening, and the core competencies required of effective peer support leaders. The training further empowered them to play a more active role in supporting their fellow students.
Special appreciation is extended to Dandelion for their dedicated service in providing testing, counselling, and psychoeducation throughout the week. Their commitment significantly enhanced the reach and impact of the program.
The university also recognizes the invaluable contribution of the peer counsellors for their dedication to mobilising students, which resulted in strong participation and engagement across all activities. Their leadership and commitment to service were evident throughout the week.

Gratitude is further extended to the Dean of Students' Office and the University Management for their timely coordination and support in ensuring the success of the outreach and sensitisation activities. Special appreciation is also extended to the Vice Chancellor and the entire leadership team for their continued commitment to student welfare and community health initiatives.
Finally, Kabarak University thanks all students and staff who participated actively and positively in the Health Awareness Week. Your engagement made the event a true success.
As we conclude, we are reminded that your health is your wealth, and there is no true health without mental well-being.
