Kabarak University Launches Two-Day Training on Competency-Based Assessment (CBA)

The Directorate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching at Kabarak University commenced today with a grand launch at the University Auditorium. The event, attended by esteemed guests including directors Mr.Franklin Etiang (Assessment and Evaluation Director), Mr.John Okoth Ondiek from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and faculty members from the School of Education, marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality of education delivered at the institution.

The launch was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat, who emphasized the importance of implementing Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) methods across all education programs. This two-day training aims to equip lecturers with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively integrate CBA principles into their teaching practices. By adopting this modern approach, the university aims to ensure that students acquire not only theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills and competencies required to excel in their chosen fields.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the dedication and hard work of the faculty in the School of Education, recognizing their proactive efforts in embracing and implementing CBA methodologies. He highlighted the significance of this training, emphasizing that Kabarak University is pioneering the adoption of CBA among private universities in Kenya. This initiative demonstrates the university's commitment to providing students with a world-class education that aligns with the evolving demands of the 21st-century job market.

The training will cover a wide range of topics, including the development of competency-based learning objectives, principles of assessment and strategies, educational taxonomies in assessment and the effective use of technology in education. By the end of the two-day program, lecturers will be better equipped to design and deliver innovative learning experiences that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application of knowledge. This initiative underscores Kabarak University's unwavering dedication to academic excellence and its commitment to producing graduates who are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to society.
