The Kabarak University community gathered for its Wednesday Chapel Service today, where students and staff were challenged to pursue lives marked by integrity, strong character, and godly values.
The sermon, delivered by Rev. Laban Kittony, was drawn from Proverbs 10:9 and Psalm 15:1-5, and centered on the theme "Growth in Character: Developing Integrity and Value." The message formed part of the University's ongoing emphasis on nurturing holistic development through its commitment to Education in Biblical Perspective.
In his sermon, Rev. Kittony underscored the importance of integrity as a foundational element of character formation. He described integrity as the integration of truth, honesty, honor, self-respect, and respect for others in both public and private life. He reminded the congregation that true character is revealed not by what people do when they are being observed, but by the choices they make when no one is watching.
The sermon explored the visible marks of integrity, including honesty in word and action, faithfulness in responsibilities, and accountability before God and society. Students were encouraged to uphold truthfulness, avoid dishonesty and deception, and remain faithful in their commitments regardless of recognition or reward.
Rev. Kittony further pointed to Jesus Christ as the perfect model of integrity. Drawing from Scripture, he highlighted Christ's truthfulness, impartiality, obedience to the Father, and unwavering commitment to righteousness even in the face of suffering. He challenged the congregation to follow Christ's example by living lives that reflect both godly character and positive influence in society.
The message also addressed practical ways in which integrity is manifested in everyday life. These included resisting temptation, respecting authority, standing for what is right, honouring relationships, practising punctuality, and speaking the truth in love. The congregation was reminded that integrity is not merely a principle to be discussed but a virtue that must be demonstrated consistently through daily actions and decisions.
As the service concluded, participants were encouraged to commit themselves to living according to godly standards, values, and principles regardless of circumstances. The sermon served as a timely reminder that integrity remains a vital foundation for personal growth, leadership, and meaningful service to others.
The sermon was concluded with remarks from our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, who commended the congregation for their commitment to spiritual growth and challenged students and staff to intentionally cultivate integrity in every aspect of their lives.
