Kabarak University officially launched its Mental Health Awareness Week on Monday, 9th February 2026, marking the beginning of a week-long series of activities dedicated to promoting mental well-being, psychosocial support, and open dialogue within the University community.
The opening ceremony brought together students, staff, and members of the Spiritual Affairs Department, reinforcing the shared responsibility of the Kabarak family in nurturing a supportive and caring learning environment. During the session, students were reminded that, just like physical health, mental health is an essential component of overall well-being and academic success.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Ag. Provost, Rev. Justus Mutuku, officially opened the Mental Health Awareness Week, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing mental wellness within the University’s academic calendar. He described the initiative as a strong commitment to holistic education, where intellectual growth is complemented by emotional, spiritual, and psychological well-being.

Rev. Mutuku encouraged members of the University community to cultivate a culture of empathy, understanding, and support, urging students and staff to listen to one another without judgment or stigma. He highlighted the need for compassion and openness when addressing mental health challenges, reminding the community that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Participants were also informed that professional counsellors are readily available throughout the week and beyond, offering confidential counselling and support services to students in need.
The opening ceremony set the tone for the week’s activities, which include forums, interactive sessions, outreach programmes, and expert-led discussions aimed at enhancing awareness and promoting positive mental health practices.
