Empowering the Future: Kabarak University's Mentorship Program at Kipsogon Secondary School

On October 23, 2023, the Department of Spiritual and Student Affairs at Kabarak University undertook an inspiring mentorship program at Kipsogon Secondary School in Mogotio, Kenya. This event, organized by dedicated peer counselors under the guidance of Pr. Esther Kapsir and Ms. Veronica Kombchi, was a testament to the university's commitment to making a positive impact on the local community.

The mentorship program covered a range of crucial topics that are essential for the personal and academic development of high school students. Some of these topics included mental health, drug use and substance abuse, time management, academic focus, relationships, self-awareness, and pre-university exposure. By addressing these areas, the mentors aimed to equip the students with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the challenges of adolescence and prepare for their futures.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for one-on-one sessions between the mentors and the students. These personal interactions allowed for in-depth discussions about the various programs offered by Kabarak University, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses. Such exposure can be invaluable in helping students make informed decisions about their higher education and career paths.

The efforts of the mentors and the Kabarak University team were highly appreciated by the principal and teachers of Kipsogon Secondary School. Their presence and commitment to reaching out to the community, and particularly to their school, were recognized as a significant contribution to the students' growth and development. This mentorship program not only imparted valuable knowledge but also instilled a sense of hope and aspiration among the young minds of Kipsogon Secondary School. It is a reminder that Kabarak University plays a vital role in nurturing the potential of future generations and strengthening local communities.
