The 10th Annual Conference of the African Society of International Law (AfSIL) was held virtually on 29–30 October 2021 under the theme: Africa and International Trade Law. The conference convened leading experts, practitioners, and scholars who discussed Africa’s evolving trade landscape. The key topics of discussion included dispute resolution under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and Africa’s international investment agreements, the role of intellectual property and competition law in African trade, and the challenges of regional integration and governance.
The 11th Annual Conference of the AfSIL, on the other hand, was held on 28–29 October 2022 in Cairo, Egypt, under the theme: Africa and the challenge of climate change. This conference brought together leading practitioners, academics, and researchers through keynote addresses, roundtables, and panel discussions. The conference covered various topics including African perspectives on climate change, strategies for climate change mitigation and the intersection between climate change, international investment law and human rights. These timely discussions reaffirmed AfSIL’s role as a vital platform for advancing African scholarship in international law.
