Reclaiming Africa’s development narrative

Reclaiming Africa’s development narrative

Caroline Kioko and Jiote Phido (eds)

Blurb

This book is a compilation of essays that discuss decolonising development funding in Africa. The essays explore the link between power asymmetries and the current development funding frameworks. The essays in this book also discuss how the current development funding model affects self-determination and sovereignty of African countries and how those funding models foster financial dependence. This book also proposes alternatives that position African communities as active participants in the philanthropic process, rather than passive recipients of aid. It advocates for reclaiming of African philanthropy through African philanthropic practices such as Harambee,Osusu, Chama, and Stokvels and merging the same with current available resources like internet.
