MOOT COURT SOCIETY
Moot court is a practical legal training platform that equips law students with advocacy, research, and analytical skills through simulated court proceedings. Students engage in drafting memorials, presenting oral arguments, and appearing before panels of judges, while also participating in debates that sharpen persuasion, critical thinking, and public speaking. Moot court bridges theory and practice by fostering professionalism, teamwork, and confidence, and by exposing students to real-world legal reasoning and courtroom etiquette.
The Society has actively participated in various national and international moot court competitions and debate forums, recording commendable performances and positive feedback from judges, particularly for written submissions and oral advocacy. These experiences have strengthened students’ litigation and advocacy skills and enhanced the institution’s competitive profile. Looking ahead, the Society is preparing for several upcoming national and international moots, as well as inter-university and internal debate competitions, which will continue to provide valuable exposure and growth opportunities for students.
In addition to participation, the Society has successfully hosted internal competitions, most notably the Internal FX Njenga Moot Court, conducted both virtually and physically. The FX Njenga Moot serves as the Society’s primary training and selection platform, open to all students. It offers structured mentorship, detailed judicial feedback, and early exposure to competitive mooting, while also forming a key pathway for selection into advanced training programmes and international moot court competitions.
